Abstract

As the key intermediate for biosynthesis of tetrapyrrole compounds,such as heme and  chlorophyll,5-aminolevulinic acid(ALA)is widely used in agriculture and pharmaceutical field.There   are mainly two pathways for ALA biosynthesis found in microorganisms,C4and C5pathway.In this    review,metabolic engineering and fermentation engineering research on ALA biosynthesis by Escherichia   coli and Corynebacterium glutamicum via C4and C5pathway was summarized
